Glaciers, whales, polar bears and dog-sledding – the world's largest island holds adventures in abundance. See the blue light of the polar night, the midnight sun and the northern lights. ... more .This bizarre event is held on the only golf course created on the frozen Arctic Ocean, at Uummannaq, Greenland. In one of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world, an international field of professional and pro-celebrity golfers compete in the world's most challenging and unique tournament. Played on just 20 inches of ice, floating on the Arctic Ocean, there are no bunkers and no off-putting crowds, just glistening glaciers and minus 40-degree temperatures. In an exceptional match of skill, endurance and a certain amount of luck, competitors battle it out in a 36-hole stroke competition, played over two days in some of the world's harshest terrain, to become the 2003 Drambuie World Ice Golf Champion. Open to just 36 global players with a handicap of less than 18, participants play on a white green, with red balls and bigger holes. They must also be nimble enough to out-run a polar bear and side step the seal holes. The course is constantly altered when movements in the pack ice allow new jutting outcrops of ice to emerge into the course. Once the tournament is over, the course vanishes once more into the freezing sea. This festival starts on March 2008.
