An act by Kapila Venu, a leading exponent of the oldest form of Indian classical dance Koodiyattam, stole the hearts of many on Thursday. Koodiyattam is a dance associated with 2,000 years' history of Sanskrit theatre tradition in India. She performed Kurmavtaram ' one of the forms of Dashavtaram ' the 10 different mythical incarnations of lord Vishnu. The event was organised at Saint Stephen's school, Sector 45, under the aegis of Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth ( SPIC MACAY), in collaboration with Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). Thursday was the 11th day of Heritage 2011.
Venu stepped on the stage after a traditional Kerla based curtain was raised by her companions. The gathering enjoyed the one-hour play, Kurmavtaram, which was a story of a fight between ''Demons'' and ''Devthas''.
While role playing the ''Demons'' and ''Devthas'', the artiste showcased a battle where ''devathas'' had lost all their strength. Kapila Venu crafted almost every expression and feeling during the act and beautifully depicted ''Bhao Ras'' ' feelings while acting the Kurmavtaram. She perfectly showcased the scene when lord Vishnu incarnated into a Kurma Avathara (tortoise) and lifted a mountain on his back.
