Sufi Concept Of Fana

March 18, 2010 |14:59 | In Pursuit of Beauty | The Circle of Life  By : Team X

Sufi Concept Of FanaAmong all species, a human being has the potential of evolving to the highest level of consciousness and becoming a siddha or saint, one who has attained spiritual perfection through sadhana.

According to S H Nasr: “To become a saint in Islam is to realise all the possibilities of the human state, to become the universal man.

The mystic quest is none other than the realisation of this state, which is also union with God, for the universal man is the mirror in which are reflected all the divine names and qualities.”

On with the show

On with the showOne of the most infamous performances in Vancouver music history happened at Expo 86. The world’s fair featured a showcase of local music talent, and the first act onstage was the Vancouver punk group Slow, which had been labelled “brilliantly out of control” in Expo bumf.

But the band’s performance evidently offended some fairgoers; management panicked and shut off the power on stage.

Unable to play, Slow singer Dan Anselmi and bassist Stephen Hamm expressed their displeasure visually: by pulling down their pants.

There is a buzz phrase circulating throughout the hair and skin care industry, and it has nothing to do with the latest beauty craze coming out of Hollywood. However, it does have something to do with Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears and P-Diddy. What's the connection? Everyone wants their own hair or skin care line.

A Healthy Approach to the Pursuit of Creating Wealth

July 21, 2009 |13:07 | In Pursuit of Beauty  By : Team X

Can being sound in health make you wealthy? It follows that in order to enjoy one you would want the other and vice versa. Most proponents of the way to wealth from a mind, body, and spirit approach may not realize they use this as their mantra.

The way to wealth using a mind, body, and spirit approach might be easier on the nerves than 24/7 aggression. Steady progress towards achievable goals is easier on the mind and spirit, not to mention the body. Stress wears people out and tears them up inside.

The way to wealth may not be as swift as most people would like. But for the body life is a long journey and the health of the mind and spirit must travel within. As many people soon learn, wealth does not exclude ill health or an unhealthy mind. Wealth does not prevent illness or mental instability.

peter schlech: in pursuit of beauty

July 2, 2009 |11:27 | In Pursuit of Beauty  By : Team X

peter schlech: in pursuit of beautyAn apprenticeship as a boat builder in Annapolis, Maryland uncovered Peter Schlech’s passion for woodworking and Schlech went on to design and build yacht interiors for thirty years. In the mid-90’s he took his passion one step further and began crafting fine furniture which reignited his creative fire and catapulted him towards further experimentation in art-making.

Recently the artist has focused his attention on sculptural vessels with curving lines that successfully create the suggestion of graceful movement, dance, close embrace and spirited conversation.

You can see Schlech’s newest works here and more of his vessels here. While it is often easy to fall into the seductive raps of repetition, imitation and sensationalism, my aesthetic goal remains clear—simplicity of design integrity and the pursuit of beauty.

For if we as artists do not impart, if only for a moment, a sense of beauty to the beholder, then we have failed at our tas

Look at the Shiny!

June 26, 2009 |10:23 | In Pursuit of Beauty  By : Team X

Look at the ShinyChapter 11 is about the profitableness of the beauty industry — not to us but to them. It’s an extremely profitable venue, especially if you have the ability to devise new products and services AND the skills to market them. How many people can think of cool new made up names to describe imaginary vitamins and minerals? Or non-existent secret ingredients? Or vitamins that do nothing to your hair because your hair can’t absorb vitamins?

Dr. David Matlock’s speciality is the Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation Institute (LVRI). This procedure is extremely popular, and yes, it’s exactly what you think it is. He decided to profit not only from himself using his techniques, but from anyone else using his techniques. The procedures are patented.Next, Dr. Matlock started an “Associate operation.” This wasn’t unlike a franchise, and put 3 million dollars into his pockets.

He made the people who used his methods pay a license fee. Dr. Matlock stated that he was merely defending his intellectual property. Of course, he says his job is “to empower women with knowledge, choice, and alternatives.

China Folk Culture Villages

As a famous country in the east of the world, China is a big and united family made up of 56 ethnic groups. Inspiration from the scenic beauty of Hunan

October 10, 2008 |17:38 | In Pursuit of Beauty  By : Team X

As China opens its curtains for the world, it reveals treasures that have remained hidden for too long. One such example might be artist Li Junsheng.

He has spent half his 46 years on earth tapping into its natural resources to create and nurture his very own contribution to the art world - sandstone painting.

First, a word by way of explanation. This writer is a philistine of the first order. Much of the art world, especially paintings, leave me cold - Manet might as well be Monet and as for the Mona Lisa, what's the big deal? (Show me an Annie Liebovitz portrait photo, though, and that's a different story).

So it was a shock to the system to find my spirit raised on a recent visit to Zhangjiajie by the artistic work of one of its unsung heroes.
